Blue-and-yellow Macaws at Coral Gables, Florida 13 Feb 2009

Here are 9 naturalized Blue-and-yellow Macaws visiting a private yard at Coral Gables. Sorry about all the talking; this was recorded indoors. The flock took off when a female Cooper's Hawk (not visible) buzzed the feeder while attacking a Rock Pigeon.

Spix Macaw on brink of extinction

The Spix Macaw, native to Brazil, is one of the world's most endangered species, but it may well be on its way back from the brink of extinction. At the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation Reserve in Qatar, conservationists have been able to help save this species, which was last seen in the wild 11 years ago. There are a total of 86 captive Spix Macaws in the world, and 55 of them live at Al Wabra. Al Jazeera's Caitlina McGee reports from the reserve, in Qatar.
